My Little Pony: Vriendschap is betoverend is one of two Dutch dubs of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. The dub first premiered on Kindernet and Nickelodeon (during its Nick Jr. block) in the Netherlands in the beginning of September 2011.[1] It also airs on RTL Telekids, and RTL 8 during its Telekids block. In the Flanders, the show ran on VTM Kids (previously VTMKzoom) from September 28, 2011, to September 21, 2018.[2][3] Since January 12, 2019, the dub aired on its sister channel, VTM Kids Jr.

Co-produced by Iyuno Netherlands and Belgium (the latter also produced the French dub), this is the first and main Dutch dub of the show. A demo dub of the episode "The Ticket Master" was produced and was released on DVDs in 2011, featuring a similar voice cast. This dub was followed in late 2016 by a second Dutch dub, sharing the same scripts and some of the voice cast, that has previously aired on JimJam.

Vriendschap is betoverend was available on Netflix. The Dutch VOD service Videoland hosts two seasons of the dub, simply titling it "My Little Pony"[4]; through there, the last episodes were released, although accidentally, on August 25, 2019, causing this dub to be the first to complete its run, before the original version as well. Two DVDs were released in the Netherlands featuring three episodes, distributed by Bright Vision Entertainment. On May 20, 2021[5], the official Dutch My Little Pony YouTube channel began uploading full episodes of the dub.

Demo DVD dub[]

As with other dubs of the show, a Dutch demo dub of three episodes was issued and sold on DVDs in 2011, featuring a different voice cast for the main characters. When the finalized dub was being produced, this episode was re-recorded with the new cast for consistency.

Unlike other demo dubs of the show, the first 3 episodes were dubbed for this purpose, instead of just the one ("The Ticket Master").

The opening theme that was used in this demo dub was reused for the final product.

Notes[]

  • When the dub started airing on Nickelodeon in early September 2011, it initially went largely unnoticed by not being shown in most TV guides, or even on Nickelodeon's own website.
  • The Dutch opening theme was accidently used in an episode of the German dub.
  • On August 25, 2019, a service that hosted the show, Videoland, accidently leaked the final nine episodes in the last season of the show, which also means of the dub, long before these episodes were meant to air in the US.[10] It was later confirmed to be accidental, as they only intended to release the first 13 episodes.[11] These episodes were pulled the next day.
    • This would mark the first dub to completely finish its run, followed shortly by Ukrainian and Polish.
